Magnum's character

Every barrel has its own story. Some are approachable from the first sip, while others take a little time to reveal themselves. And then there are barrels that immediately make you stop, go back for another taste, and pay attention.
This was one of those barrels.
When we tasted this Rare Character Single Barrel, we weren't looking for something soft or predictable. We were looking for character — a bourbon that stood apart and had something memorable to say. This barrel delivered exactly that.
Selected specifically for Magnum’s and bottled at cask strength, it comes to the glass with all of the intensity and personality it had in the barrel.
The First Pour
The nose opens in an unusual and intriguing way. There is a touch of earthiness, quickly joined by mature oak. Give it a little time in the glass and another side begins to emerge: ripe stone fruit and caramel, adding richness and sweetness without taking away from the whiskey's rustic character.
Then comes the first sip.
This is where the barrel shows its strength.
The palate is distinctly dry and oak-driven, with the maturity of the whiskey immediately apparent. Vanilla begins to work its way through the seasoned oak, while traces of stone fruit and caramel remain underneath.
And because this bourbon is bottled at cask strength, there is no hiding the power.
The proof arrives with a serious rush of heat and spice. It's bold and warming, but that intensity is part of what attracted us to the barrel in the first place. This isn't a bourbon trying to be delicate.
A Finish That Stays With You
After the sip, the oak doesn't disappear.
It settles into a long, dry finish, with vanilla lingering behind the wood and a persistent spicy warmth that continues to build. The flavors slowly fade, but the impression of the barrel remains.
That's what made this selection memorable to us.
It's earthy, fruity, caramel-rich, dry, oaky, hot and spicy — a combination that gives the whiskey a personality entirely its own.
Why We Picked This Barrel
A single-barrel selection should offer something you can't simply find in every bottle on the shelf.
For us, this barrel did.
It isn't about making the bourbon smoother, sweeter, or easier. It's about finding a barrel with a distinctive personality and allowing it to speak for itself.
That's why we chose to present this Rare Character Single Barrel at cask strength.
One barrel. One selection. And a bourbon with enough character to earn its place at Magnum’s.
